Facts
Red dragon fruit
The red colour comes from betacyanins — the same pigment family found in beetroot — which give the flesh both its striking hue and much of its antioxidant value. Vietnamese growers increasingly favour red-flesh varieties for export because they earn higher prices in China, Japan and the EU.
